The Cabbage Soup Diet Review

One of the most popular diets today is the cabbage soup diet. This article takes a looks at the pros and cons of the diet to help you decide if it is the right diet for you.

The cabbage soup diet is fairly straightforward. It is a 7 day diet aimed at rapid weight loss which claims that you can lose 10 lbs. or more in the 7 days that you are on the diet. There is a special soup that you make using a combination of cabbage and other vegetables. The basic concept of the diet is that you can eat as much of the cabbage soup as you want each day to keep from getting too hungry. There is a 7 day eating plan that goes along with the soup which consists of a highly restrictive list of other foods that you are allowed to eat on the diet.

Although initially the diet may seem like a good idea and the promise of rapid weight loss is certainly tempting, there are quite a few problems with this diet that may not make it the best choice.

First, it is an extremely low calorie diet which can cause problems. Many people report feeling light headed when they are on the diet because they simply aren't getting enough calories. Along with that, eating too few calories can actually make it harder to lose weight and easier to gain it back since it throws your body into "starvation mode". Basically, your body thinks that you are starving so it slows down your metabolism to keep from using your fat reserves for energy in an effort to keep you alive longer. A slower metabolism will make it more difficult to lose weight.

The major problem with this diet aside from having too few calories is that most of the weight that you lose on it will be water weight. That means that the minute you go off the diet you will see the weight you have lost start to reappear. Obviously that's not what you are aiming for, right?

Because the cabbage soup diet is highly restrictive in regards to the types of foods that you eat and how few calories you eat it is very hard to stick with for the full 7 days without cheating or going off the diet. Along with that many people report that the cabbage makes them gassy which can be an embarrassing problem if you have to be out in public during the course of the diet.

About the only good side to the diet is that it includes a lot of fruits and vegetables. However, fruits and vegetables alone don't provide your body with all the nutrients that it needs.
