Crazy Diets You Should Avoid

Image : http://www.flickr.com

American showman P.T. Barnum once said, "There's a sucker born every minute." Whether they realize it or not, a lot of people are suckers when it comes to dieting. Desperate for a quick fix to their weighty problem, they abandon established ways to lose weight (like exercise and eating less) and instead pursue crazy diet plans that make no sense at all.

The allure of fad diets lies in the way they are packaged. They are endorsed by movie stars and other celebrities. Some have the names of "doctors" attached to them. They are simple to follow - they identify good and bad foods - and promise or guarantee dramatic results. They claim that you can eat what you want and still lose weight even without exercise. They provide people with instant solutions and instant gratification because some weight is lost. But what is often lost is water not fat and this is quickly replaced the next time you drink or eat.

"We want something and we want it now. Moderation, variety and balance in the diet takes effort, long-term commitment and lifetime change and people aren't patient," said Joy Short, an assistant professor of nutrition and dietetics at St. Louis University in St. Louis.

God's Diet, for example, is a very restrictive diet that prevents you from eating the things God didn't make. Dietitian Melissa Payne of the Orlando Regional Health Care in Orlando, Florida, describes it as a "radical" diet since it has a long list of foods to avoid, especially those containing sugar.

The Blood Type Diet recommends different diets for the different blood types since food is supposedly metabolized in a unique manner by each blood group. Type O people are said to be the "cro-magnon type" and should eat nothing but lean meat while type A individuals belong to the Roman Empire and should subsist on vegetables. On the other hand, Types B and AB can eat anything. Experts warn that Type O people who follow this diet are at risk of heart disease from consuming too much fat while excluding certain food groups in your diet can deprive you of essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs.

In the Grapefruit Diet, grapefruit is said to have fat-burning enzymes and will do all the work for you. Aside from one small, isolated study (that appears to have been sponsored by the citrus industry), there is no scientific evidence to support this ridiculous claim, according to Liz Neporent, trainer and author of "The Fat-Free Truth."

To get back into shape following childbirth, Elizabeth Hurley supposedly followed the Caveman Diet. Proponents of this diet say that the modern practice of eating three meals a day is unhealthy. Only one meal a day is allowed similar to our prehistoric ancestors. The best time to eat is at night and your meal should consist of protein, carbohydrates, and vegetables. Experts say this diet is dangerous since you're starving yourself to death.

In the Cabbage Soup Diet that is espoused by Sarah-Michelle Gellar, you eat nothing but cabbage soup for seven days along with fruits, vegetables, fish, and chicken. Proponents claim you can lose 10 pounds a week since cabbage soup keeps you full. While this diet is rich is anti-oxidants, it is unhealthy since weight loss is due to fasting and you can lose muscle mass as your body burns protein not fat.

Another variation is the Coconut Diet followed by Jennifer Aniston where you eat - surprise! - nothing but fat-rich coconut oil to lose fat (if you're confused, so am I!). The menu consists of butter, egg yolks, meat fats, and lard. This diet will supposedly boost the immune system but it's more likely to hurt your heart.

To lose weight, eat sensibly and don't restrict yourself to certain foods like the above diets. Remember that there are no good foods or bad foods, only bad diets! All foods can be part of a healthy diet so there's no need to limit your choices. If you've tried everything and failed, get back into shape with Zylorin, the safe and effective weight loss supplement that will enhance your diet and exercise program. The Top Golden Diets For Fast Weight Loss

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It is possible to actually enjoy what you are eating yet still be able to shed the pounds. Amazing right?

Some of the top diets that are out their right now have the same essential break down which involves reducing your intake of things like fats, carbohydrates, and food that have outrageous amounts of calories. Many of these plans want you to eat things like lettuce, fruit, and vegetables where calories are less of an issue.

One of the oldest diets in the history of dieting is the good ole Cabbage Soup diet. It is simple as it sounds. You do the best you can to scarf down cabbage soup when you get hungry. The reason why this is one of the best diets to lose weight is because it helps you maintain a low calorie intake. It may not be the most flavorful diet out there but it prevents you from consuming too much greasy fatty food.

Another one of the best diets to help lose weight is the Sonoma diet which was created by Dr. Connie Gutterson. The key to this is to try and create meals that are filled with veggies, sweet fruits, natural whole grains, and the use of almond oil. These food choices can provide your diet with vital antioxidants and vitamins that will be good for your body and as long as you eat in ideal portions this diet can help you lose weight.

One of the most well known diets in the world is the Slim Fast diet. It creates an answer for a person's urge for food by simply drinking a shake that can usually satisfy someone's hunger for over four hours. This is certainly one of the best diets for losing weight because it creates an important balance in a person's meals and snacks. The routine encourages you to eat sensibly and every so often replace a meal or snack with a shake. Slim fast asks you to eat things like fresh fruits, cottage cheese, or something as simplistic as a yogurt for a mid day snack. For meals they suggest you to mix in things like vegetables, nuts, and new meats that are low fat.

Whether you want to use these exacts diets or mix and match to create the best diet to lose weight for you, be sure to achieve the ultimate goal which is to lower your total caloric intake and begin to cut those pounds. It is important to eat non-fatty low calorie foods. Such as fruits, vegetables, roughages, and many others which you can get creative with to make tasty new dishes.

Tips on Choosing the Best Portable Gas Grills

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are plenty of reasons why having portable gas grills is a must for those who love doing outdoor activities. With such grills, grilling while camping, picnicking, or enjoying the beach has become easy. These grills are lightweight making them very easy to carry around, thus allowing you to enjoy the outdoors and great food at the same time.

Portable gas grills are also very small that they are easily stored both for traveling and for storing. They do not eat much storage space so it is not necessary for you to have a spacious backyard to own one. You can store them in the garage or in some cabinet indoors without any problem.

There are different features for each brand. When you are out to buy one, it is best for you to consider the following:

The weight of the grill. This is one important factor that most people take for granted. There are portable gas grills that are lighter compared to others. Grills that exceed forty to fifty pounds are not portable at all. However, this depends on your preference, purpose, and how you plan to transport it from one place to another.

Aside from weight, the size is another factor that you should consider. You have to consider how much space you need to be able to grill food at one time. The more people there are, the larger the grill should be.

Storage space is another consideration. As mentioned earlier, one advantage of a portable grill is that it does not require much storage space. However, you will need to consider just how much space can you spare for storing the grill? Do you have a vehicle to transport it from one place to another? If yes, then how much space can that vehicle handle? While these grills are usually small enough to fit in cabinets or inside a car, you still have to consider how much space you actually have.

Another consideration is the cooking surface of the grill. There are grills that have multiple and spacious cooking surfaces. There are models that can handle barbecuing flat and ribbed grill. You should also look for those surfaces that are nonstick. The bigger the space, the more you can save time and resources in cooking. You can use the space to spread the heat and have as much food cooked in a specific amount of time.

Each model or brand has something special to offer. Consider the accessories that come along with the grill. See to it that you know if the accessories are for free or you have to pay for them as well. There are portable grills that come with pot stands or condiment trays. There are those that come with a portable bag as well. Some other accessories include pans, rotisserie kits, and brushes. All these should make your grilling more fun and convenient.

Most portable gas grills are sold online as well. You can also find out more information about these items when you do a research online. There are many user reviews that should guide you which brands and models are worth your money.

HCG Diet Recipes That Get Results

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of my favorite things about the experience HCG diet to get healthy and enjoy good food a part of it is to find just the right recipe and their duties are inside Clearly Finally, we need much direction as you can get when they meet this particular diet if this work is given direction by people they did before.

One of my favorite things to eat soup is independent of the HCG diet or not. I love all types of IT and could not eat at every meal. When I went on the HCG diet I wanted to learn quickly if we are there, I could eat soup and found that there were several of them and I was afraid to try them. I'm not very good right now, but I thought I'd go ahead and try to play and I was glad I did.

HCG are two recipes that can be found on our site, but deserve attention in an article:

French Onion>Soup

Ingredients

1 Vidalia onion
1 cup beef broth
1tsp. garlic powder
1tsp. onion salt
1tsp. pepper
2 Melba toast

Directions

Slice onion with an apple slicer to make wedges and to open up the onion. Season the onion and place it on top of a foil sheet. Add 1⁄4 cup beef broth, and wrap it up tightly. Place in a baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Make sure the onion is not too soft; you want it a little firm. Serve in a bowl with 2 cups of beef broth and 2 Melba toast. *Makes 1 vegetable serving*

The reason I love this so much is because it has lots of flavor. I love onions and I love garlic and this provided a ton of flavor for me that satisfied my taste and hunger levels while acting as a vegetable serving.

Green Onion Soup

Ingredients

10 green onions
2 cups vegetable broth
1-2 tsp. liquid aminos
1 tsp. parsley
4 drops or 1 packet Stevia
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dill
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/8 tsp. cayenne or red pepper flakes
1/8 tsp. celery seed

Directions

Briefly steam the green onions until tender. Preheat saucepan over MED heat. Chop steamed green onions. In a saucepan, sauté the green onions in a small amount of vegetable broth for a couple of minutes. Add the parsley, Stevia, paprika, salt, dill, thyme, celery seed, and cayenne. Sauté 1-2 minutes more. Add remaining vegetable broth, reduce heat, cover and simmer 20-30 minutes. Makes a great side dish on the hCG Diet. *Makes 2 vegetable servings*

The Green Onion Soup from the HCG diet recipes is another great great soup with a lot of flavor to it. I love strong flavors while on the hCG diet because you hear a lot of things about the 500 calorie a day protocol, but this wasn't a soup that felt like I was struggling to get through. I was very impressed. Don't be afraid to try out HCG diet recipes and find which ones you like and which one you don't. Experiment with what works for your body and then go with it. The experience of being on the hCG diet should be about learning and improving your habits and finding the right recipes goes along with that.

Testing the Cabbage Soup Diet - Day 1

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Today, as promised, is my first day on the legendary cabbage soup diet. I've been meaning to try it for many years, but somehow the time was never right (translation: I was able to find excuses). It's a short-term crash diet, based on eating unlimited quantities of a cabbage-based soup which costs more calories to digest than it provides, so you can eat enough to feel full but keep losing weight rapidly.

The diet is augmented by different added foods on each day. You eat as much of the soup as you want, and as much as you want of the other foods for the day - in my case, Day 1: Fruit (except bananas). In theory the selection of additional foods is carefully chosen to maintain your levels of vital chemicals so you don't get sick. I'm told the diet was originally developed by doctors to cleanse the system and reduce weight before heart surgery, but I haven't been able to find evidence or a listing of the "original" diet. There are a whole bunch of variations floating around on the basic recipe and schedule.

So this morning I went down to my fantastic Italian greengrocers, and came back with a carrier bag stuffed full of green things. After a lot of chopping, peeling and simmering, here's what it looks like: The bulk of my diet for the next week.

Actually, it's not bad at all. With loads of onion, celery and tomato in, it's got the base of a good stock mixture (and some of my own vegetable stock cubes in for a boost), and it's well seasoned with thyme, basil, bay and black pepper. It's really pretty tasty, although I've quickly found myself adding a bit of salt to each bowl or it really is bland.

Obviously there's not much in the way of effects today, although I have felt a bit up and down energy-wise, particularly as I missed breakfast (since I didn't have anything allowed by the diet in the house to eat) and then ate a lot at lunchtime. With heavy-digesting foods like this, it's important to spread them out through the day rather than eating big meals, as anything hard to digest brings your energy levels down for a while (the reason why people get sluggish in the afternoon when they eat big lunches).

My brain is already at work trying to screw things up, and I keep imagining that I'm craving chocolate or meat, very unlikely since my last "normal" meal was last night and that's really not time for your body to feel deprived. I have been enjoying the fruit enormously, experiencing the intense flavours and sweetness much more than I normally would, but I think that's largely psychological too. I've been drinking a lot of water and green tea, and the digestive workout seems to be making me quite thirsty. Otherwise I feel as good as ever, really. I'm even looking forward to a supper of fruit tonight when I settle in to watch a new episode of House.

Obviously, a crash diet isn't a longterm solution to weight loss. Right now my normal diet is pretty good - I'm mostly off the overprocessed rubbish foods, I eat a fair bit of veg and fruit, very little out of the freezer (except things I've cooked and frozen myself) and I'm reasonably good about sweets. Week on week I am losing a little bit of weight. It's just that the mountainous task (and stomach) ahead of me are making me feel pretty demotivated. Hopefully this quick boost will help me feel more motivated to be strict with myself and stick with the exercise.

How to Control Your Appetite

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When we say appetite control, there's only one diet that comes to mind of many dieters, the Atkins Diet program. Dieters are surprised at how their appetite decreased heavily during in this diet regimen. The usual trigger to eat between meals has completely diminished by this program. With this thought alone, dieters believe that it is the best suitable diet program for them. The effects given by the food of the Atkins diet is probably the main cause of the appetite suppression experienced by many dieters.

Power of Protein

The main component of the Atkins diet is the consumption of more protein into the body. Protein is more powerful than carbohydrates in satisfying hunger. Some diet programs require dieters to take a carbohydrate-filled diet only to feel hunger every now and then. This is the reason why Atkins diet preferred more protein intake because it is proven to be more effective than carbohydrates when it comes to suppressing hunger.

Egg can do Wonders Too!

Eggs are extensively used in the Atkins diet. Why? It is because eggs are rich in protein and therefore are great in controlling appetite. According to recent studies, eating eggs during breakfast helps you avoid the feeling of hunger and urge to eat often. In the study, two groups were given food with the same calorie count; results showed that the group who ate eggs for their meal ate less throughout the day. Therefore, those who eat eggs in their meal were less likely to have more food intake in between meals.

Properties of eggs

Did you know that about six grams of protein is inside a single egg? This small amount has big effects in our body; it balances blood sugar and keeps us feeling full. This is needed to suppress the urge to eat often during the day. Egg yolks contain lutein and xenazanthin which are beneficial to our eyes. Better results from eggs can be achieved if they are taken in whole and not as egg yolks or egg whites only. Abundant amount choline is also found in eggs, which are beneficial for the functioning of the brain and providing good memory.

Vegetables in Atkins

The most common vegetable present in the Atkins diet program are the broccoli and cauliflower for their appetite suppressing outcome. These vegetables' bulkiness makes them perfect for dieters because they make the tummy feel full and therefore sends signal to the brain to release chemicals that will make one eat less.

Remember, whenever you feel full, appetite is reduced. Regardless what food you take, as long as your tummy is satisfied, your brain reacts by signaling your body to feel the not needing to eat. But if you do not enjoy vegetables that much, you can still have the same effects with psyllium husk and water.

Small amount is the key

The secret to make Atkins diet work for you is by having small meals throughout the day. You can spread the calorie intake by consuming small portion of food rather than plunging into one large meal three times a day. This will send the signal to the body from the brain to urge off from food. Taking small amounts within the day also balances the sugar in the blood. With a high carbohydrate diet, sugar levels are increased whenever meal is consumed and tummy satisfaction is just for a short period of time making you crave more for food.

The Magic of Atkins Diet

Atkins diet gives only what is sufficient to your body. Proper intake of protein rich vegetables gives out quick energy to the body and balances your blood sugar level causing you to feel full all throughout the day.

For those who want to have a diet program that provides a positive weight loss results and still retain that essential energy to the body, Atkins diet is the best program to be in.

Recommended Daily Menu for a Colon Cleanse Diet

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Over the last decade in part of the general population there has been a growing movement (pardon the pun!) where people have embraced "natural" methods to help them prevent illness and reduce the risk of health problems occurring. One of the ways that this has been accomplished is through the adoption of a colon cleanse diet.

A colon cleansing diet does not need to be hard or torturous, although some people do go through a fasting and detoxification phase, which can sometimes be a little arduous, this is not necessary if the aim is to embrace a healthier diet from this point onwards.

It is a natural state for our colon to be clear of build up - there is no physiological reason why any of the foods we eat, once digested do not get expelled easily and naturally - However, this is not the case for large number of people.

The typical "western" diet consists of many hard to digest elements, and ones that as we evolved we are not equipped to deal with effectively over long periods.

Diets that are high in fat, contain a lot of red meat or processed meats, include a large proportion of processed foods, and contain little dietary fiber are the norm among large bodies (pardon the pun again!!) of the population.

Once a build up occurs in the colon, the body will normally be able to eliminate the waste matter, however, if this build up is allowed to progress, often due to poor diet and inactivity, it can lead to a position where the colon becomes narrower, which can cause constipation. It can also reduce the ability for the colon to absorb nutrients from the food.

This sort of environment is the ideal breeding ground for parasites, "unfriendly" bacteria and can encourage yeast overgrowth.

Continue reading to sign up for our free newsletter and you will discover natural methods and diets that can help you cleanse and detoxify

First off, you need to know what you have to avoid in your diet to improve colon health. Don't be put off by the list, it may seem that this is a list of all the foods you enjoy, but we will come to the foods that are fine to include in a candida diet soon.

Foods to restrict/ avoid include:

o Black tea and coffee

o Pasteurized milk

o Sugar laden cookies, potato chips and other junk foods

o Sodas

o Alcohol

o Foods from fast food joints

o Fatty (fried) foods

o Avoid smoking (not a food but important to restrict or eliminate)

This list can seem harsh, especially if you view coffee as the crutch that can get you through the day, and cookies and potato chips gives us great company when where watching TV. While it is recommended to avoid them, having a little bit once in a while will not adversely effect the diet if the rest of the diet is maintained. Just have enough discipline to limit yourself.

Here is an example of a healthy colon cleansing diet:

For breakfast, you can have fresh fruits and fruit juices, in fact, an apple can work better in giving a boost of energy to a person than coffee, as the inevitable "caffeine low" is avoided. You may also have prunes, low salt low fat cottage cheese, oatmeal cereal, natural sheep and goat yoghurt, and some boiled or poached eggs from time to time.

For lunch options include fresh vegetable salad with no dressing, brown rice, steamed vegetables, cottage cheese pumpernickel sandwich, vegetable soup, or sprouted beans.

For dinner, you may have more salad, grilled or steamed fish, cottage cheese or a small omelette.

For snacks, dried fruits would do fine.

So go ahead, try out a colon cleanse diet and if you are interested in knowing more then take a look at our website below.

The Longevity Diet

Image : http://www.flickr.com

American society today, and heck, every other society, seems to be obsessed with not only improving their level of health and happiness during their life, which is but a flicker, but also with promoting longevity.

We all think that by living longer, it will allow us to live a fuller, more realized life and will only enhance our existence if we know that we're going to be around for a while to realize our dreams, see our families grow up and change, and enjoy being with those that we love and cherish the most.

Of course, as you know there are several fairly simple things you can do to ensure that you will make it into your octogenarian years and beyond, perhaps even into your centenarian years, without so much as blip in your health.

That's the American dream, to live a full, long, prosperous and healthy life, and why not? It's the secret desire of all of us to prolong our lives, especially if we happen to be people who are generally happy with the way things are going and we are just sort of curious to see how things end up.

One of the key elements to increasing your longevity is your diet. Of course, there are genetic factors that enter into the picture which are not fully within our control, such as predisposition toward certain kinds of cancers and other life threatening disease which not only can shorten our life span, but also lessen our quality of life in general.

But what about those factors that we can control, like diet and lifestyle that can very well overcome any genetic shortfalls, and propel us into those long-lived categories of people that everyone seems to admire?

That's what we're going to talk about today, the factors that you can control to prolong your life, and make it a healthy and happy life at that. There is mounting, compelling evidence that several factors in the type of food you consume, and more particularly the amount of food you consume, is the single most important factor, besides genetics, that help your body to live longer and stay in good shape.

Several studies have shown that people on exceptionally low calorie diets live longer pretty consistently. The reasons for this are at this point a hypothesis, but the general feeling is that the body is free of the burdens of processing and digesting a lot of different foods, and that energy instead is put into the health and vitality of your organs.

This isn't to say that you should starve yourself, as severe calorie restriction results in a whole set of health problems including heart failure and potassium imbalances on it's own, but people who are consistently consuming just over one thousand calories a day enjoy greater health and longer lives with less disease.

It also makes sense because the foods that are generally considered healthy are in fact also low calorie. Foods such as vegetables, fruits, and natural whole grains are naturally lower on the calorie scale, and therefore take less energy to digest, while also lending to your body's nutritional needs by giving it vitamins and minerals that are vital to bodily functions.

People who are on low calorie, nutrient dense diets have much less body fat. Excess body fat has been linked to a whole host of health problems that cut the life short and also cut into your quality of life. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, digestive problems, and a whole host of other serious and life threatening problems are linked to excess body fat, so it's no wonder people with less body fat enjoy longer lives and much more energetic and healthy states.

Limiting alcohol is another key to the longevity diet. Alcohol is not only calorie dense, but it is also loaded with sugars which put the whole blood sugar balance out of whack. Alcoholic consumption has also been linked to weight gain, cancers, heart disease, mental disorders, and diabetes as well, and therefore is another "food" product that can take years off your life.

To state the obvious, alcoholic beverages are also extremely hard on your organs, as your organs cannot easily process them, most notably the liver takes a beating, and the liver plays a very important role in detoxifying your body and keeping you free of disease and health issues.

A diet for longevity should also limit the consumption of meat. Meat is also very hard on the digestive system, and only lean white meats and fishes should be consumed, and they ideally should only be consumed a few times a week, fish being the preferred choice due to it's optimal vitamin and fatty acid content.

Red meats have been linked to tons of health problems, and they also happen to be high in fat and calories as well, so they should be consumed in moderation or not at all.

The Cabbage Soup Diet - A Fast Way To Loose Weight

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Introduction:

In the era of weight consciousness, cabbage soup diet is a method of loosing weight quickly for short term. The origin of this concept is not exactly known but it became popular from 1980. It is a seven day diet plan and claims to reduce weight by as much as 10 pounds (4.5 Kilo Grams) within one week. It is given many names like " Sacred Heart Diet"," Military Cabbage Soup"," TJ Miracle Soup Diet" etc.

The Concept of Cabbage Soup Diet:

The basic principle of this diet plan is that it reduces calories intake by up to 50% of daily requirement and the food allowed to be eaten are high in fiber. You are allowed to have as much of cabbage soup as much you want accompanied with some other food and 6-8 glasses of water.
The recipe of the cabbage soup is given below;

Ingredients:

1) 6 Large Green Onions

2) 2 Green Peppers

3) 1-2 Cans Diced Tomatoes

4) 1 Bunch Celery

5) 1 Package Lipton Onion Soup Mix

6) 1-2 Cubes of Bullion (optional)

7) 1 Head Cabbage

Method: Boil the diced vegetable in water fast for 10 minutes and then let it simmer until vegetables are tender. Season with salt, pepper, parsley or any flavor you like. This makes approximately 24 cups of soup.

Diet Plans:

1) First Day: For first day you are allowed to eat fruits. Eat all of the fruits you like except bananas. Eat only your soup and fruits. You may drink unsweetened tea, cranberry juice and water.

2) Second Day: Second day is vegetable day. Eat cooked and raw vegetables till you are full. Prefer leafy veggies and stay away from peas, beans and corns.

3) Third Day: Third day is mix of first and second day. You may eat fruits and vegetables with soup but don't have baked potatoes.

4) Fourth Day: Eat up to 8 bananas and as much skimmed milk as you can. This day is supposed to fulfill your desire of having sweet.

5) Fifth Day: This is beef and tomato day. You can eat ten to twenty ounces of beef and six fresh tomatoes. Beef can be substituted by broiled or baked skinless chicken. Beef can also be substituted by broiled fish but out of two beef days only one beef day can be made fish day. You should have soup at least once a day on your fifth day and drink 6-8 glasses of water to wash the uric acid from your body.

6) Sixth Day: This is Beef and Vegetable day. You can fill your stomach with beef and leafy green vegetable on this day. You can even have 2-3 steaks too. Eat your soup at least once. Stay away from baked potatoes.

7) Seventh Day: Your seventh day's menu is brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and vegetables. Again you should eat the cabbage soup at least once.

Important fact about this diet plan:

This diet plan is for 7 days only and reimplementation is not allowed before taking a gap of 15 days. This essential gap of 15 days between two 7-days cabbage soup plan is to fulfill the nutrients requirement of your body as this plan is not considering nutrition.

Pros:

This diet plan gives very quick result so attracts people and good for making a start. Generally people don't start any moderate weight loss program because of its length of duration. It develops the morale to loose weight and motivates to attempt for a long time to start any long term program.

Cons:

This Diet Plan is not for long term effect.

This does not consider the daily nutrient requirements of our body. It simply neglects necessity of protein in our daily diet.

It allows high sodium food.

Most of the people become fed up of the taste of the soup in two to three days. However some spicy and tasty variations are offered.

People adopting this plan complain weakness and light head ness during they implement the diet plan.

The foods are very low in calories. Generally our body requires 1800-2200 KCals. But this diet plan gives up to 800 KCals. Per day.

Flatulence is the common side effect of this diet. Flatulence is the presence of mixture of gas in digestive track of mammals.

According to "Medicinal Uses of Fruits and Vegetable sun ripe plantain contains special dietary fibre called pectin, which increases the number of calories ingested thus can shed weight or treat obesityá.

Researches by alternative medical practitioners have shown that people experiencing frigidity, sterility and most especially very cold sexual drive may not necessarily need to take drugs like Viagra, but natural diets like plantain.
Although some herbal doctors call it natural remedy for weak penile erection, but many other neuropaths say it should not be regarded as Viagra because of its negative interpretation. They say it is only a libido enhancing natural therapy that has no dangerous effect on body organs like the heart as that of Viagra.

Researchers have shown that co-treatment of extract of root of plantain to streptozotocin-treated diabetic rat resulted in a significant correction in the levels of sex organ relative weights, serum insulin and testosterone levels, sperm count and viability, androgenic enzyme activity, antioxidant enzymes, conjugated diene and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance levels in testis and germ cells counts at stage VII of the seminiferous epithelial cycle.

The results of the study published in Journal of Herbs, Spices & Medicinal Plants support the validity of this herbal drug for the management of diabetes as well as diabetes-induced testicular disorder.

How does plantain boost sexual performance, reduce impotence, unsatisfactory erection, sexual weakness and increase sex drive, including women you may ask? How can it be prepared might be the question of some people? The answer is that only unripe plantain is required for this purpose. Fresh unripe plantain would be used with the peel removed.

Some naturopaths recommend: Unripe plantain, pure honey, cloves and walnuts will be grinded, mashed or pound together to make a gel or paste. After this, the gel will be sun-dried to form a cake or flakes. During sun-drying, the materials should be protected either with tiny, spacing wire mesh or iron mosquito nets from flies. Once totally dried and has become a flake, it has become a "drug" referred to as sex enhancing drug capable of improving penile-erection, cure sexual coldness in women and also prevent early or premature ejaculation in men during sexual intercourse.

The results of the experimental study indicate that, in the mammalian model used, methanolic extract of mature.
Although the precise mechanism of the hypoglycemic action of MEMP is still unclear and will have to await further studies, it could be due, at least in part, to stimulation of insulin production and subsequent glucose utilization.

Nevertheless, the findings of this experimental animal study indicate that MEMP possesses hypoglycemic activity, and thus lends credence to the suggested folkloric use of the plant in the management and/or control of adult-onset, type-2 diabetic mellitus among the Yoruba-speaking people of South-Western Nigeria."

A study on the effect of plantains on Desoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-induced hypertension in rats indicates that chronic consumption of plantain diet is capable of lowering the DOCA-induced elevated mean arterial pressure in rats.
According to the study published in Pharmaceutical Biology by E. E. Osim of the Department of Physiology College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar; and J. O Ibu of the Department of Physiology, College of Medical Sciences, University of Port Harcourt, plantain diet can also prevent the onset of DOCA-induced hypertension in rats.

They wrote: "DOCA administration to rats placed on normal rat feed elevated the mean arterial blood pressure. The consumption of plantain diet by rats previously treated with DOCA lowered the mean arterial blood pressure to control values. DOCA administration to rats previously placed on plantain diet produced no significant change in the mean arterial blood pressure when compared with control."

Plantain is also recommended for the treatment of urinary stones. The stem juices of Musa paradisiaca have been reported for dissolving pre-formed stones and in preventing the formation of stones in the urinary bladder of rats. Rapid Weight Loss - Learn How To Slim Down Quickly

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Sometimes we just need to lose the weight asap. In this article, I'll tell you exactly how.

Oops - you say as you look down at your waist and your pants look ready to burst. But you have an important even coming up in days - what can you do about it? Luckily, there are some good methods for short term weight loss that you can start using today.

If you really want to lose the weight quickly then you must combine two things - diet and exercise.

Diet

For maximum weight loss, you must reduce significantly the amount of calories that you consume. This means making some huge sacrifices but remember that this is only for the short term. When your crash diet is over then you can start eating normally again.

For breakfast, eat only fruit. This will deliver the great nutrition that you need for the rest of the day. The best types of fruit are the water rich ones such as melon and oranges. Also, any fruit with a stone such as plums and peaches are also very good because they have a high glycaemic index and so prevent you from getting hunger pangs later in the day. Eat a few pieces, it will be hardly any calories.

For lunch, have some vegetable rich soup with a single piece of bread, no more.

For dinner, eat a small portion (size of an old cassette tape) of lean meat such as chicken. Also eat steamed vegetables such as broccoli or carrots.

Exercise

For exercise, there is really only one candidate and that is HIIT or high impact interval training.

Go outside and jog at a fairly quick pace for 30 seconds. Now sprint as fast as you can for 30 seconds. Then alternate back and forth between jogging and sprinting. Do this for a total of 15 minutes.

That's all the exercise you need to do each day. You will burn more than any other exercise and you will also have an elevated metabolism for the rest of the day.

Soups Are Good For Dieting

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Of course there are many so called 'diet foods' that can help you lose weight. Think of all the celery and carrot sticks, and the salads. Those are nice, crispy foods that you can munch on, but sometimes you want something warm and comforting. Did you know that soups are also great choices for dieters?

When you want to diet and lose weight, you need to eat foods that are low in calories. Most soups contain few calories because they are made with mostly vegetables. Everyone has heard of the famous Cabbage Soup Diet that allows you a significant amount of weight loss within a short period of time.

Soups are a very healthy meal choice that can help you lose weight as well. In fact, you can get all your dietary and nutritional needs from a bowl of soup. Consider that a nice bowl of soup will contain the protein your body needs in the meat and the broth, the vitamins and roughage from the vegetables and even some starch or carbohydrates from the noodles, rice or potatoes it may contain. (Of course, you can omit the noodles, rice or potatoes if you are on a low or non-carbohydrate diet.)

Consider also that soups contain very little fat. Vegetables do not contain fat, so the only fat in the soup would come from the meat that may be in the some soups. But, not all soups contain meat either. So soups are also a low-fat dietary choice.

Using soups as part of your diet plan also allows you to create variation in your diet menus. There are as many types of soups that you can eat as there are days in a year (or more!) With most diets, however, it is best to stick to the clear soups instead of the creamed ones that contain higher calories.

When you decide to make soup for your diet, you really don't have to fuss or use a recipe either. Throwing the vegetables you like in a pot of beef, chicken or even vegetable broth can produce great tasting results. Add a few onions here, a bit of garlic there, a can of diced tomatoes or other vegetables, some spices and you will end up with a different taste experience each time. Variety on a diet is very important to help you stick to your diet plan so that you do not get bored eating the same foods day in and day out.

Adding soups to your diet to lose pounds also allows you to share the same foods you are eating with your family. Soups are not really perceived as a specific 'diet food' so everyone in the family can enjoy the same meal. Just add a bit of fresh bread or crackers to their meal.

Soups can also be perceived as a comfort food so that you can feel more satisfied with the foods you are allowed to eat on your diet. Think of sitting by a rosy fire on a cold winter day wrapped in a cozy blanket and sipping on a mug of hot soup. Won't you feel like you are having a treat instead of being on a diet?

So next time you consider your weight loss, consider eating soup. The endless variety will help you satisfy your taste buds, and the low fat and calories will be in line with the weight you want to lose on your diet. Soups are a great choice for dieters.

The Best Soup to Make For Kids

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Soup is a delicious food and there are lots of different types of soups you can make. When you make soup from scratch, the soup ends up containing all the goodness from the vegetables. If you boil vegetables, you usually throw the water out, but with soup the goodness stays in the soup, making it a very nutritious dish.

Kids can be fussy eaters so if you want to get them to eat vegetables, you might have to puree the soup, else they will pick out the bits they do not like. Pumpkin soup is a wonderful recipe for kids because pumpkin is naturally sweet and juicy. Some pumpkin soup recipes have added sugar, honey, or cream and the idea of a sweet tasting soup is something that will capture your child's interest.

Making Soup an Attractive Meal

Other popular soups for kids include tomato soup, chicken noodle soup, carrot and orange soup or anything with their favorite cartoon character on the packet. Homemade soups are much better for kids because they do not contain the preservatives, artificial colorants and other fillers than canned or packet soups do.

Garnish your homemade soup with a dollop of cream and a sprinkling of cinnamon to make it look attractive to the little ones, or serve it with crusty bread for dunking. Avoid anything sour, bitter, spicy, or too strong flavored, if you want your kids to eat it without protest. Making your own soup at home means you can control the ingredients and put your kids' favorite flavors into the soup recipe.

Sweet and Creamy Pumpkin Soup

The following recipe is designed to appeal to adults and kids. The pumpkin soup contains butter, flour, a little sugar, and milk for creaminess. The onion adds nutrients and the pumpkin adds both sweetness and vitamins. If you puree the soup in a blender, do it in batches. Pureeing the soup is optional though, but a good way to hide the vegetables.

Your kids are guaranteed to clean their bowls if you serve them this delicious pumpkin soup. The following recipe makes enough to serve four people. It does tend to get quite thick, so just add more milk if that happens.

How to Make an Easy Pumpkin Soup Recipe

What you will need:

3 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon sugar
1 onion, chopped
2 cups milk
1 lb pumpkin, cubed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

How to make it:

Boil the pumpkin cubes until they are very soft, and then drain away the water. Melt the butter in a pan and fry the onion in it, over a medium heat, until it is soft. Add the sugar, flour and some salt and pepper and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the milk slowly, stirring all the time. Keep cooking over a low heat, stirring the soup until it is hot and thick. Add the pumpkin and simmer the soup for 5 minutes, then puree it in a blender and serve hot.

Beans, Beans, Good For Your Heart, Your Digestion and Your Health

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Yeah, that rhyme doesn't sound the same as it used to in my childhood, but the lesson actually is totally true. Beans are an extremely healthy food, no matter what kind of beans you are talking about. Now, I'm just talking about beans, not loading them with sugar and bacon and all that other stuff, but amazingly enough, even those types of beans are still really good for you.

Beans are naturally high in protein and fiber, two things that are often lacking in vegetarian diets, so this goes double for any veggie-mights out there. Lets see what else do beans have to offer? How 'bout they lower cholesterol and reduce cancer risk. Because of the high fiber content they also reduce the chance of obesity because they fill you up, and stave off further appetite. (Most processed foods pretty much are fiber-free). Wonder why you are hungry a half hour after eating store bought mac and cheese? No Fiber.

And I guess the original childhood rhyme bears fruit. Beans also help relive constipation. (Hey, it's good to know, isn't it?)

So why am I talking about beans? You can't get fit by training alone. Diet is thought to be up to 80% of weight loss. That's why Jenny Craigs and Weight Watchers work on the weight loss spectrum. The problem is that doing diet without resistance training will make you a fat thin person. Yes, it sounds odd, but your muscle will decrease and your fat tends to increase (percentage wise) as you lose weight from dieting. And since muscle burns more calories than fat, being a fat thin person, you will burn even less calories, and gain weight back more easily...and unfortunately the weight you gain likely will be more fat weight, so it turns into a nightmarish spiral.

The key is combining diet with weight training. (Yes, I know, I'm a record that keeps skipping, but the message remains true.)

So without further ado, another bean recipe. This time it's Super Quick Black Bean Soup.

Combine 3 cups of water, 1 -16 ounce jar of medium salsa (or mild, your call), 1 -16 ounce can of black beans, low sodium, and 3 table spoons of a chicken or vegetable soup base. Heat and eat. You can also add one tablespoon of chili powder and some Tabasco sauce, if that floats your boat. Spicier foods also increase your metabolism, have I ever mentioned that?

Extra virgin olive oil is made from the very first pressing of the olives, and as a consequence contains the very highest levels of anti-oxidants. The Mediterranean Diet is famous for being a rich source of anti-oxidants, which are vital for good health and mopping up dangerous free radicals.

Hope you enjoy these Mediterranean Diet recipes for weight loss. Healthy? Yes! Boring? No.

Stay Healthy Over Christmas/Hanukkah/New Year's in 5 Easy Steps

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Well it is nearly the end of November, and like it or not, Christmas/Hanukkah/New Year is looming on the horizon for many of us. For those of us who do not celebrate it in our homes, there are still social engagements, office parties and meals to contend with. Each year we are squeezed into making more effort, buying more presents and more food than before.

There can be weeks of December and New Year where a constant stream of drinks and nibbles if offered where ever we go, our classes and gyms are closed when we want them, and at the same time, we are expected to look fabulous and cheerful all of the time. Well I say ENOUGH! We can socialize and have fun at this time of the year without having to compromise our healthy lifestyles. Here are five ways to survive the season of gluttony;

1. Keep to your exercise schedule; it is tempting to let the dark nights, cold mornings, endless chores, shopping, and preparation get in the way of your usual exercise routine whether that is classes, gym, home routines, or walking programmes. Make sure that you mark in your diary the times that you will be exercising and stick to them as if they are an appointment with somebody special- your body deserves not to be neglected. Anyway, for once the gym will be empty and you can stay on the running machine for as long as you like!

2. Stick to your healthy eating plan; just because the supermarket shelves are groaning under the weight of Belgian chocolates and bumper packets of Pringles doesn't mean you HAVE to buy them. Ignore the special offers; don't buy 3 of something you would never usually buy just because it is festive, and NEVER walk through the Christmas food section! Keep your cupboards stuffed with healthy things. Don't forget that this is the best time of the year for citrus, so if you want something Christmassy then buy a huge pack of satsumas or clementines.

3. Watch out for what you drink. There may be parties, drinks after work, meals out, and social visits; for many people this will involve drinking more alcohol/mixers/soft drinks than usual. As we have discussed before, these drinks may have a detrimental effect on our weekly calorie intake.

o Make sure that you eat before you go out drinking- hunger can lead to drinking too much too quickly.

o Make your first drink a sparkling mineral water- this ensures that thirst doesn't make you gulp your drink down.

o Match each alcoholic drink for a glass of water to stay hydrated and ensure that you don't drink too much.

o If you do not drink, still watch out for soft drinks which are high in calories. Mix fruit juice with sparkling water, or drink water with a slice of lemon or lime.

o Choose a spirit such as vodka and drink with plenty of fresh fruit juice or cranberry. Drink white wine spritzers, or make a luxury Bucks Fizz with good quality fresh orange juice and sparkling wine.

4. Watch out for what you eat; here are some ideas for healthier alternatives to party snacks:

Swap Belgian chocs for Dark Chocolate-covered Brazil nuts (rich in selenium and other antioxidants).

Swap Peanuts for Unsalted seed and nut mix: almonds, brazils, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, soya nuts, hazelnuts- all rich in essential fatty acids. These will do you good, but don't go mad, even good fats will contribute to weight gain in excess.

Swap Crisps (aprox 33% fat)for Japanese rice crackers (often almost fat free), salted pretzels 3% fat or less (not the flavoured ones).

Swap Little pastry snacks (mini-quiches, vol-au-vents, cheese straws etc) for Margarita Mini-pizzas, blinis/mini oat cakes with smoked salmon and half-fat cream cheese, bread sticks.

Swap Crisps with dips (sour cream and chive, blue cheese etc)for hummus or low-fat yoghurt with onion and herbs. Make vegetable batons or bread sticks for dipping. Avoid creamy and cheesy dips,

5. Enjoy yourself, have little bits of what you want, but EXERCISE RESTRAINT. You do not have to go crazy just because everyone else is. You will feel much better going to bed without that horrible stretched feeling in your belly. Try serving or choosing green salad or vegetable soup before the main meal to suppress your appetite and discourage over eating. Buy small amounts of quality treats rather than the huge bags and boxes of special offer stuff. If it is there in huge quantities, you can bet you will eat in huge quantities.

Well you may scream Bah Humbug at me, but I know how hard this time of the year can be for people; hopefully by keeping ourselves in check and searching for healthy alternatives, we can all emerge in January still healthy, fit and happier than the people who bought the bumper packs of Pringles.

This easy to follow diet is a radical weight loss diet which claims that the more low-calorie cabbage soup you take over a period of 7 days, the more weight you will lose. In fact, this diet claims that you will see drastic weight loss of about 10 pounds within 7 days.

As this diet is designed for short-term weight loss and requires no long-term commitment, it is little wonder that it has become one of the most popular diet around. Another reason for its popularity is that with cabbage, which has negligible calorie, as the main ingredient of this fat burning soup, you need not worry about spending too much money on it or gaining weight.

So Does This Diet Work?

This do-it-yourself diet claims that you can lose up to 10 pounds within a week. While that may be true, nutritional experts have pointed out that the weight loss is mainly due to water loss and not fat. They noted that it is quite impossible to lose that much fat within a week. Another point to note is that the loss of weight from this diet is temporary and hence you will probably gain back your weight soon after that.

Another point to note is that the original Cabbage Soup Diet tastes bland, hence many recipes for this diet has high salt content to make it palatable. For people who are not able to take such high sodium content, they should stay away from this diet. Dieters should should realise that there is practically no protein from this diet. As a result, people have reported feeling weak and light-headed during the course of the diet. One common reported side effect that result from the diet is flatulence. Hence, you should be prepared should you take up this diet. Of course, it is always advisable for you to consult your doctor before following this diet.

The fact is that Cabbage Soup Diet, although is a low-fat and high-fiber diet, is not a nutritionally balanced plan nor can it bring about permanent weight loss. With the emphasis on cabbage as a main ingredient, the diet lacks certain important vitamins and minerals. To follow this diet, you must also be prepared for the monotonous meals.

Personally I believe that this diet can be counter productive. Since the diet would force your body to go into slower metabolism, it would then encourage your body to hold on to your fat reserves. In the end, you may be only delaying your weight loss plan.

Weight Loss Meal Plans - Tips For Making the Right Choice

The slimming process has to be fast and effective, but it has to be as convenient as possible as well. If you do not want to count calories and wonder when and what to eat, you should definitely choose one of the ready weight loss meal plans. These are abundantly offered on the internet for free. So, you have to focus your research on the different features of the program.

It is best for you to pick a weight loss meal plan that is created by a nutrition expert. In this way you can be certain that the diet is healthy as well as effective for slimming. Generally, the good weight loss meal plans provide for a daily calorie intake of no less than 1500 calories. There should be a total count provided for each day. This is another factor that you can use to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the program. If the number is not present this certainly means that the plan is based on guesswork mostly. Also, some of the more sophisticated systems allow you to choose your daily calorie intake so you might readily want to look for such a diet.

You should also check the number of meals in the plan. They have to be four or five. The effective weight loss plans require you to have breakfast, lunch and dinner and at least one afternoon snack. In this way you can control your blood sugar levels and hunger pangs efficiently. In turn you will lose weight more easily and quickly. You are highly recommended to avoid all diet plans that require you to drink fluids only. These are usually ineffective and can be potentially very dangerous.

All good diet plans give you the recipes for the meals that you have to prepare. This is definitely beneficial, but you have to check whether you can actually do this. If you have to eat a certain vegetable soup for lunch you will not be able to cook it at work. So, when looking at the weight loss plan you have to make sure that you can fit it into your daily schedule effectively. You have to be able to do some cooking and you might also consider preparing dishes in advance and taking them with you to work.

Generally, it is a good idea for you to focus your search on weight loss meal plans that give you a number of alternative choices for each meal. In this way you can feel more comfortable with the diet and stay more motivated.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

For many years, Cabbage Soup Diet recipe has always been around. But how does it work? How effective do you think it is? Will you really lose weight when you take it daily?

Getting to Know Cabbage Soup Diet

If you are looking for a low-fat, high-fiber diet that will get you in shape as soon as possible, then you've got to try Cabbage Soup Diet. The best thing about this plan is that you can lose about 10-15 pounds for only 7 days.

The original recipe consists of cabbage, celery, peppers, tomatoes, and onions. Some would add onion soup mix in order to have more flavors. However, eating this soup for 7 days straight might be nauseous. That's why some would put in more spices and make it palatable.

A dietitian from Memphis Veterans Medical Center, Millicent Lasslo-Meeks, said that there is really no magic in the combination of food. But there are certain food combinations that can speed metabolism. It is therefore implied that the mix of foods in Cabbage Soup Diet would somehow burn fat.

Another clinical dietitian, Alison Trowbridge, said that this diet may drop a few pounds but it can result to loss of your lean muscle, which will hamper your body's capacity to burn calories. To solve this, she said that exercising while following this diet is very crucial.

What does Cabbage Soup Diet Offer?

The original purpose of Cabbage Soup Diet is to offer a fast option to weight loss. After you achieve your ideal weight, you are now ready to enter into a healthier eating habit and limit your portions later on. It's a good way to jump start your weight loss effort.

Another advantage is that this diet will last only for 7 days. Experts say that healthy people will not be harmed with limited food intake in such as short period of time. In fact, it may even discipline them to add more vegetables in their daily diet.

Cabbage Soup Diet Recipe

Those who have tried the soup in this recipe can say that it isn't that bad. Here is a simple recipe for you to follow.

Ingredients:

- ½ or whole cabbage head
- 1-6 green onions (scallions)
- 16-28 ounces of crushed, canned, or whole fresh tomatoes
- 2 bell peppers (green)
- 1 stalk up to 1 bunch celery
- 1-2 packages of Onion Soup mix
- Black pepper to suit your taste
- Herbs to suit your taste
- 6 carrots (optional)
- 16 ounces of green beans (optional)
- Small can of V-8 juice (optional)

Procedure:

1. Slice the vegetables and then place it in a huge pot covered with water. Add the soup mix. Then boil gently for about 10 minutes, cover it while lowering the heat to simmer until the vegetables are soft.

2. Next, add pepper (or whatever herbs you may prefer). You may even put a dash of fresh herbs (such as basil or cilantro) at serving time. This will make around 6 quarts.

3. Since this soup will last you several days, you may want to put in additional water when the liquid starts to get low. A chicken or beef bouillon may be added too.

Faster Weight Loss Diet

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Here's a faster weight loss diet than the typical fad diets that help you to lose weight then you pack it all back on. Look, you'll lose weight fast on this diet I'm about to share with you. BUT, you'll also be able to keep it off since there won't be any huge changes. You won't be going too far out of your comfort zone... if at all. Read this now so you can start losing weight immediately.

Faster Weight Loss Diet

1. Breakfast is make or break time

You need protein and if you're going to eat a big meal, it has to be here... not at lunch or dinner. Breakfast IS the most important meal of the day. You screw this up, and you basically screw up your day... nutritionally. You won't be able to recover no matter how good you eat for lunch and dinner. You simply need to eat a good breakfast. You can't eat a breakfast loaded with simple carbs and you can't skip breakfast.

Get some eggs, try some black beans, eat rolled oats oatmeal, get in a protein shake. Those are the top options.

2. Lunch and dinner... eat soup or salad and follow it up with meat and a vegetable or two

Simple. You use the soups and salads to eat less of the main meal. This is easy way to eat your favorite foods while cutting calories out. The only thing to make sure it that your vegetable isn't potatoes.

3. Snacks... go with protein snacks

Protein helps to control your blood sugar levels. So high protein snacks between meals are quite important. I'm big on low calorie yogurts, string cheese, and beef jerky. Give them a try for a week. You'll see they do a good job at satisfying your hunger and different tastes.

This is a faster weight loss diet that works... give it a try and see for yourself.
